Fire Safety Directors FDNY Policy Regarding Unwarranted Or Unnecessary Fire Alarms

Unwarranted or unnecessary fire alarms include, but are not limited to not going off-line for construction, drills or testing

If your building generates two unwarranted or unnecessary alarms in any 3 month period:

Your building will be issued a Notice of Violation (NOV)

You will be able to “self-certify” that this violation has been cured

Additional unwarranted or unnecessary alarms within 180 days will result in another NOV

You will not be able to “self-certify” that this violation has been cured

You must appear at an ECB hearing

You may incur a substantial fine

Each additional violation will result in this penalty

After 180 days of no violations your status will be returned to normal
